Is it Time for You to Buy Resveratrol?

Written by Harry J. Andersohn on May 7th, 2009 in Supplements and Vitamins.

I know that there are some people who simply refuse to watch the news, so I’m going to start at the very beginning here just in case you haven’t heard of all of the amazing studies that have been done surrounding resveratrol — the active ingredient in red wine that is responsible for all of the incredible health benefits that I’m sure you’ve heard about. But I bet you didn’t know just how much red wine you’d have to drink for it to be effective.

Let’s not even talk about what it would cost you to drink 12 bottles of wine every single day. What about the health effects? Any of the benefit from the wine would quickly be outweighed by the damage the alcohol would do. So what’s the solution? There is one. And it’s called resveratrol supplements.

So what we’re talking about here obviously is taking a resveratrol supplement. In this way you can get all of the benefits without having to put up with the negative effects of mass alcohol consumption. And since resveratrol works on a cellular level, you can start to get healthier from the inside out.

Does your family have a history of heart related diseases? Never fear! Resveratrol is here to help as it reduces the risk of heart related diseases.

But that’s only the beginning. Let’s say you’re a little bit overweight. Resveratrol Has also been shown to increase metabolism. And when that happens, not only do you have more energy, but you’re also burning more fat all the time. So if your diet is less than ideal, resveratrol can help offset the effects.

Benefits mentioned earlier are just side benefits, however. Resveratrol has been gaining popularity for one major reason.

Everyone is looking for the fountain of youth. And resveratrol is as close as we’ve come to finding it. Now of course this doesn’t mean that you’re going to live to be 200. But it does mean that resveratrol could very well extend your life, and keep you healthier well into your later years.

There is also this little thing called the French paradox. In case you haven’t heard of it, this refers to the phenomenon found in the people of France, who generally eat fatty foods such as cheese and pate but who have a much lower incidence of heart disease than we do here in the US. Many people are now saying that red wine is responsible, and resveratrol is the substance in that wine that makes it work.

Well, the only reason that they are able to do that is because of Resveratrol. Resveratrol unlocks the longevity gene in cells. Resveratrol makes it so your cells are able to heal quicker, have more energy, and just be overall healthier.

But that’s not even the end of the story. If you are at all worried about typical and common degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, you should know that resveratrol has been shown to reduce plaque buildup in your brain. It’s this that causes Alzheimer’s in the first place. So being able to reduce or avoid it, puts you at a lower risk.

Remember, these are only a few of resveratrol’s benefits. But these are amazing enough that it becomes easy to understand why so many researchers, doctors, and influential members of the media, are starting to report on this and recommending that people look into it.

The benefits that I’ve listed here are just the beginning of the benefits that resveratrol can offer you. There is a good reason that the media has started to recently focus on resveratrol. It is beneficial on every level of your body.

You’ll have more energy, you’ll be able to live longer, look better, have a stronger heart, and it even helps your brain stay healthy. So what are you waiting for? Buy resveratrol and you’ll be happy!

Find out the benefits of drinking water for your health

Written by Nicos Stylianou on May 6th, 2009 in Nutrition.

The other day I finished reading a fascinating book named “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water”. What impressed me the most from reading this book, is that the author establishes a clear association between the benefits of drinking water and our overall wellness.

As the author of the book says, the importance of drinking water is very crucial for our health. To prove his point, he mentions examples of some common ailments and proves, using medical terms, that the underlying cause for these ailments is the fact that we don’t drink enough water. I show you some of the examples right below:

When our head hurts

You should agree with me that some of the most common ailments that millions of people get afflicted with on a daily basis, are headaches and migraines. Most of the times, the underlying cause is very simple: You skipped on drinking adequate quantity of water.

The biological process of a headache is this: When we don’t replenish the water in our bodies by not drinking enough of it, our brain, which itself is 75% water, produces histamines. The creation of these chemical substances in turn cause pain and feeling of tiredness, the common symptoms of headaches. In turn, this makes us slow down our activities. In this way, the level of water in our brain is maintained at a minimum level, allowing our brain to function properly.

Most of the times, a big glass of pure water and a 20 minute break will work better than any pain killer medication to make our headache go away!

Sore Back

According to statistics, one out of four adults experiences at least once in his lifetime the pain and distress associated with a sore back. As the author claims in his book, another one of the benefits of drinking water is that it helps mitigate our suffering.

Let me explain.

As you might probably know, our backbone is made up of a number of discs. While externally these discs are made up of a hard shell, internally they are filled with water. When the level of water inside is adequate, then they provide ample support to the disc, helping it cope with the pressure exerted on them when we move our upper body.

Being flexible, our discs respond to the varying pressure exerted on them when we move our upper body, by shifting their shape. When they do this, water that stands around in our body is sucked inside the discs. As long as there is enough water around, then our discs have no problem, as they are properly filled with fluid.

As you realize, when the fluid levels (especially water) in our body are low, then there is not enough to keep the discs properly hydrated. So, most of the weight load of our body is shifted on the outer disc shells. Most of you have experienced the results on your back or neck: Pain, swelling and soreness occurs.

High blood pressure

Believe it or not, deprivation of water is also one of the probable causes of hypertension, better known as high blood pressure.

You probably don’t know this, but it has long been established that hypertension more often than not occurs when the total volume of our blood goes down. Considering now that more than 80% of our blood consists of water, then it is easy to realize that dehydration can very well lead to blood volume loss.

Our body’s internal mechanisms have the ability to monitor the level of our blood volume. When there is an alert that this volume has fallen below acceptable limits, then our body switches into an emergency mode, directing supply of blood only to active organs switching everything else off. This redistribution of the circulatory system more often than not leads to high blood pressure.

In summary, the examples I gave you above are just a few of the many health benefits of drinking water, for you and your family as well.

However, I should stress the following: Not all water that we get at our houses is created equal. Its quality varies greatly, depending on a lot of factors such as where it originates (could be ground water or surface water), the kind of treatment it undergoes, etc. The subject of water quality is a very diverse one and is surely beyond the scope of this article. My personal opinion is that it is definitely worth it to spend some time investigating the issue and decide on taking action to ensure that the water at your house is the purest it can be.

How to burst that stomach fat fast!

Written by Andrew Tan on May 5th, 2009 in Weight Loss.

People all over the world feels obesity is an epidemic but I would say, the fat stored in your stomach is a more serious issue than obesity. People buy all fanciest gizmos and devices to flatten their stomach with out even realizing there is never a magic way to flatten your stomach. We will explore possible ways to get rid of that stomach fat.

Flattening your stomach starts with doing exercise which even a child knows. Melting those fat with basic aerobic and cardio exercises is the beginning. Follow exercising by interval training method. Interval method is to alternate with intense and moderate level exercises for little interval of time. An example of this would be go out for a run and run full speed for 1 minute and the jog for 20 seconds and keep repeating for 20-30 minutes. Interval training speeds up metabolism and burns a lot of calories. You must also do weight training exercises at least 2-3 times a week. Each time you do weight training concentrate on different parts of your body. Such muscles you build by weight training exercises will burn calories even while resting.

You should do abdominal exercises also to reduce your stomach bulge. Please do remember that you can’t actually reduce stomach fat but you can tone up your abdominal muscles. There are a lot of powerful abdominal exercises. But I would recommend some best exercises like Captain’s chair, the bicycle and crunch on a exercise ball.

Captain’s Chair- This exercise is done using a piece of equipment found in most gyms.

1. Stand on chair and grip handholds to stabilize your upper body.

2. Press your back against the pad and contract the abs to raise the legs and lift knees towards your chest.

The Bicycle- This exercise can be done anywhere, lying on the floor.

1. Lie face up on the floor and lace your fingers behind your head.

2. Bring the knees in towards the chest and lift the shoulder blades off the ground without pulling on the neck.

3. Straighten the left leg out while simultaneously turning the upper body to the right, bringing the left elbow towards the right knee.

4. Switch sides, bringing the right elbow towards the left knee.

Crunch on an Exercise Ball An excellent exercise done using an exercise ball.

1. Lie face-up with the ball resting under your mid/lower back.

2. Cross your arms over the chest or place them behind your head.

3. Contract your abs to lift your torso off the ball, pulling the bottom of your ribcage down toward your hips.

4.As you curl keep the ball stable.

As you can probably tell these are just some examples of how to flatten stomach. You may start with a couple of these suggestions or follow all these at once and will feel your fat melting away. And as you may guess good diet along with physical exercises alone will reduce your stomach fat. Physical exercises alone can’t work wonders.
