Brilliant Vintage Wood 1920s Davega Imperial Tennis Racket Original Strings Old rackets do not come much cleaner or crisper than this one!  FANTASTIC CLASSIC antique nice old early wood wooden racquet with super strings, rich wood tones & great decals.  Looks like it was hardly used. NOTE:  Just in time for Wimbledon.  Part of a group of 9 rackets I just found. I will list one racket a day between June 16 and June 24.  Will combine items for reduced postage for multiple purchases. MODEL: 1920 Davega “IMPERIAL” Gorgeous colors. Clean, clean, clean. HEAD: Classic period oval; Stock is square at the shoulders and rounded as it goes around the head WARPING: none FRAME: excellent condition; MUCH LESS than expected wear to the top of the head THROAT WEDGE:  convex solid mahogany wedge laminated in place in the style of the period STRINGS: INTACT with added sweet spot stringing as shown: looks like original lamb gut. BANDING: The nine original bands and silk cord stringing are all in place; minor TLC needed on a couple of the strings DECALS: As shown; megaphone style decal typical of 1920; fabulous excellent condition GRIP: a large 4 3/4 inches; pre-dates grip material STAMPS: M   at the neck as shown… probably for the weight WEIGHT: weighs 13.2 ounces actual weight END CAP: leather strip intact with the most minor wear; end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.  •••••••• Davega Co. was founded in 1879 in New York City; they eventually expanded to 27 stores by 1932.  They sold all sorts of sports equipment. Davega was the early version of Dick’s Sporting Goods; I grew up in NYC and clearly remember buying my own first racket at Davega’s in the 1950s.
