Vintage Ken-Wel "Super Special" Wooden Tennis Racket-Camera Corner-Louisville KY
Estimated price for orientation: 29 $
Category: Vintages
Class:
Description Model: Super Special Grip Size: 4 3/4" Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Brand: Ken-Wel
Offered is this vintage wooden "Super Special" model tennis racket, made by Ken-Wel. I don't know how old the racket is for sure. Ken-Wel started in western New York in the 1910s; I would guess this racket dates to the 1930s-1940s? The wooden portion of the racket is in good condition, although there are areas where the varnish has been scraped off. Also, two of the five raised circular bands around the shaft is missing and one is loose. The strings are mostly intact and look to be the originals (catgut?). Some are broken, though, as you can see in the photos. The grip feels like leather but I am not sure. The grip size is approx. 4 3/4" as best as I can tell by measuring with a piece of string. The shaft has a label indicating the racket came from the "Camera Corner Sports Shop" in Louisville, Kentucky (see photo #5).
