The Pro Staff 97S injects Wilson's innovative Spin Effect string pattern into a frame with a more traditional feel. The 19mm beam and softer flex provide a plusher feel at impact with nice precision, and the even balance gives the Pro Staff 97S exceptional plow through and stability. The 18x17 string pattern gives this racquet a subtle boost in spin and a forgiving sweetspot without sacrificing too much control. Though the Pro Staff 97S is a Spin Effect racquet, the Spin Effect string pattern doesn't have as dramatic an effect on performance as some of the other wide open string patterns. While we enjoyed the high swingweight for knifing backhand slices and volleys, we did find it difficult to get the racquet into position at times. The high swingweight was most noticeable on forehand returns and serves, although the results of our shots were still good after a brief adjustment period.
