Description
Brand: Slazenger Grip Size: 4 5/8"
Model: Victory Type: Vintage Tennis Racket
Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom

Offered is this vintage "Victory" model wooden tennis racket, made by Slazenger, famous British sports equipment manufacturers.  I don't know for sure how old it is but would guess 1930s-1940s. (The company began in the early 1880s and this racket is marked "Slazenger's Makers of racquets for champions for over 50 years", so that would support that possible age.)  Interestingly, the racket has stamped into the wood "Murton's Newcastle and Sunderland" (see last photo).  The only reference I can find close to that is a firm called "H. A. Murton", a company that sold golf clubs and other sporting goods in Newcastle in the early 1900s; I am guessing the racket was made specifically for this firm to sell, thus the stamped-in mark.
The racket is in very good condition for its age. There are some worn spots and scuffing on the varnish, 3 of the 10 stripes around the base of the racket head are missing, some light wear on the leather grip and a few small indents in the wood of the shaft. The grip size is approx. 4 5/8" as best as I can tell by measuring with a piece of string.
