This is a used tennis racquet with normal wear from play.  Racquet is structurally and functionally in good condition.   Dating from 1984-1985, the Head Graphite Edge TXE was AMF Head’s stiffest and most expensive midsize (84 square inch) racquet, and one of their last frames made in Boulder, Colorado, before Head transferred production to its Kennelbach, Austria location.   The TXE is a superlative hit: think of a Pro Staff 85, with improved ball feel and “dwell,” yet with a crisp response, and plenty of “bite” for spins, thanks to its more open 16x18 stringing pattern (the other concurrent Edge series racquets had a denser 18x20 pattern).  The model is also noteworthy as it was the first model (along with the concurrent TXD) made by Head to have a replaceable plastic bumper guard—prior to this detail, which is now ubiquitous and taken for granted, the better Head composite models had molded-in nylon plastic edges underneath the paint, which wore down in use and were not replaceable.   Nowadays, a TXE in good condition is very difficult to find.  First, they were a rare racquet, as the model was only produced for two years, and its retail price was around $200 or better – a premium for the day.  Now, over thirty years later, it is exceptionally hard to find one whose plastics (bumper and grommet) have not become brittle with age and cracked into pieces.  This specimen is one of those rare survivors, which has been used lightly and still has its integrity intact.  Plastics are still in good condition, showing no cracking or brittleness, and light wear on the bumper.  Frame has a couple of small chips on the paint, here or there, but nothing significant.  The grip (size 4-5/8”) was replaced at some point with a very high quality top-grain calfskin grip by Moody, which still has its tack and feels great.  It’s strung with TOA Leoina 66 at approximately 45 pounds, and was given the classic Head “ski tip” stencil recently.  No cover is included.  This is a fine example to continue to use on court, or stash in a collection.   Priority Mail shipping to continental USA is $12.00.  Please take a look at my other auctions for more interesting classic tennis gear
