Early George G. Bussey “The Prince” Lawn Tennis Racket c.1885This is an early model lawn tennis racket was made by George G. Bussey & Company of London, considered as one of the premier racket-makers of their era. The words “H. Turner” and “Oxford” were impressed into the throat, probably to identify the owner. “The Prince” is one of the very earliest G. G. Bussey models, evidenced by the oval shaped grooved handle and thick leather neck collar and protective leather guard around contact area of racket head. There is no logo on the leather butt cap; further evidence that this was one of the earliest models. The racket head has a slight tilt, reminiscent of some rackets made during that period, influenced by the original tilt-top rackets made primarily in the mid to late 1870’s. You can see the design of the wedge creates the tilt with one side more curved than the other. The frame and wedge are made of ash. The thick original strings have a few breaks. Brass screws are on each side of the wedge.  Racket lays perfectly flat.27" long x 9.25" wide*Please wait for your invoice before paying - invoice will include cost of shipping, insurance and signature confirmation.
