RARE Vintage Wood 1905 B G I Bridgeport Gun Implement Fairfield Tennis Racket CLASSIC: Antique old early wood wooden racquet in large teardrop shape; original strings intact; beautiful contrasting woods.  The BGI Company manufactured guns and sporting goods in Bridgeport, CT, for a short time at the turn of the 19th – 20th century.  They went out of business in 1908.  The rackets were made in Bridgeport, CT, and business office was in New York.  There are not a lot of BGI rackets around.NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I have listed two rackets a day between May 27 and June 1.  Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: B G I Bridgeport Gun Implement Co Fairfield.  Fairfield is a town direct next to Bridgeport, CT.HEAD: Classic period tear drop (teardrop) oval; stock is square at the shoulders and all the way around the top of the head; a little bit of wood loss wear to the top of the headWARPING: noneFRAME: excellent condition and retains most of the original finish with some lovely crackling at the wedgesTHROAT WEDGE:  convex in the style of the period; has 1905 5-piece laminated wedgeSTRINGS: original very thick mustard color gut strings as shown; strings are intact! No breaks.BANDING: none; this racket pre-dates bandingDECALS: as shown.  There is no BGI identification decal on this racket but there is no mistaking the script and font of Fairfield , the distinctive cross-hatching on the grip, the design of the numbers in the weight stamp and the contrasting woods.  Guaranteed to be a BGI racket.GRIP: 4 1/2 inches; never had grip material.  PLEASE NOTE: the grip is a work of art and a “trademark” of B G I: contrasting woods, cross-hatched on the four broad sides like on the grip of a fancy pistol; the four narrow sides of the grip are not scored or groovedSTAMPS:  13 - 2 as shown (probably for the weight); the style of the stamp is identical to other marked BGI rackets I’ve sold; other faint stamps I can’t make out.WEIGHT: actual weight is 13.4 ounces END CAP: leather strip at the base of the handle is about 50% intact; the heel end cap as shown Postage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.  International buyer: please wait for the invoice.  International shipping: Approximately $45 for one racket; $4 for each additional racket in the same box.Last rackets in this collection will be listed on June 1.
