RARE Vintage Wood 1925 Open Throat Draper & Maynard Paragon Tennis Racket SUPER: Lots of terrific features on this antique nice old raised shoulder early wood wooden racquet from well-known New Hampshire maker… First D & M open throat I’ve seen and it has great strings and an amazing end-capNOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I have listed two rackets a day between May 27 and June 1. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1925 D & M Draper & Maynard PARAGON with raised shouldersHEAD: Beautiful raised shoulders on this racket; stock is square at the shoulders and slightly rounded as is goes around the top of head WARPING: NoneFRAME: very solid and sturdy condition; much less than expected wear to the top of the head.THROAT WEDGE: open throat design that was introduced at the second half of the 1920sSTRINGS: look like the original red lamb gut with a “gold” thread target zone and trebling, all completely intactBANDING: has the six original silk thread bands in contrasting colors; has orange “plastic” throat band as well to match the threadsDECALS: As shown; deco-look HACO Los Angeles Long Beach probably a store label; Paragon appears on both sides of the throatGRIP: 4 ¾ inches; pre-dates grip material; very shallow grooves STAMPS: H perhaps for the weight as shown (heavy?)WEIGHT: weighs 14.3 ounces actual weightEND CAP: leather strip beautifully intact; fabulous end cap featuring the “lucky dog” as shownPostage will be based on 3.5 pounds of packed weight.
