SummaryWhile Head's Sprint Pros impressed us last year with their fast, low-to-the-ground performance, the new Revolt Pros now anchor Head's support/stability performance line. The Revolt Pros offer a snug, glove-like fit that's ideal for players with narrower feet, and their lateral support and durability blew us away. At the end our rigorous playtest none of our playtesters had put much of a dent into the outsole or the toe area of their shoes. The Revolt Pros did offer a fairly unique fit that's fairly snug through the midfoot with a slightly lower arch support. However, the lower arch didn't stop our high-arched playtester from falling in love with them. While they aren't the lightest or fastest shoes out there, narrow-footed players who like more substantial shoes should certainly give the Revolt Pros some consideration.
Comfort - Score: 3.8The Revolt Pros offered a narrow fit that worked really well for one playtester but not as well for the others. Chris, who has narrow feet, found the shoes to be very comfortable and well cushioned. He offered, "I found a great fit in these shoes once I went up a half-size. I have narrow feet and the width was perfect for me. These shoes offered a glove-like fit that supported my feet comfortably. I was able to break them in very quickly and was playing comfortably in them within the first hour. I was also impressed by the level of cushioning. My feet felt very protected from the court, yet I didn't feel too elevated or disconnected from what was going on. The cushioning felt very responsive for that quick first step."Mark didn't find them overly cushioned, but he also had no issues with the comfort once he hit the courts. He said, "These shoes have a low-to-the-ground construction, so they didn't necessarily have a plush feel underfoot. With that said, the comfort was more than sufficient for my feet, and there were no seams that pinched my feet in any way."Andy needed some time to break in the Revolt Pros before they got comfortable. He shared, "To be honest, I found these shoes to be pretty uncomfortable when I first slipped them on. They were very stiff and the fit was very snug. However, after a while the uppers started to soften up and expand a little bit. I began to appreciate the plush cushioning around the upper, especially in the tongue. Once I got the shoes broken in they certainly became more comfortable, but right out of the box I struggled a little bit. On court they felt pretty rigid laterally, which helped the stability but negatively affected the comfort."These shoes were just too narrow for Jason's wider feet. He critiqued, "This is tough for me to score because of the narrow fit. I think the cushioning is pretty good, but they are quite narrow through the midfoot and forefoot. The fit did start to loosen up as the playtest wore on, so that did help. I thought the padding around the ankle collar and tongue was plush and helped with the overall comfort, but the narrow fit was too much of a negative factor for me."Ventilation - Score: 3.7The breathability of the Revolt Pros wasn't much of an issue for our playtesters. There was more than enough ventilation for them to stay comfortable on court. Mark said, "Head got the ventilation right without sacrificing the shoes' lateral support. The mesh is underneath the webbing that cradles the foot. Top notch for sure."Sharing those sentiments, Jason said, "There was definitely enough mesh and perforations throughout the upper to help these shoes breathe during play. Even the snugger fit didn't take away from the ventilation."The snug fit bothered Andy a little bit more in this category, but ultimately it didn't prove to be too much of a problem. He shared, "The breathability was good, but not great. They never got overly hot and sweaty, but maybe because of the tighter fit, I definitely would get those 'ahh' moments when I'd slip them off after play. However, heat or moisture retention was never an issue during play."Chris also thought the ventilation was good, but not great. He offered, "The ventilation was pretty middle of the road for me. My feet never got overly hot in the Revolt Pros, and they seemed to do enough to help expel some of the heat. I thought the venting in the Revolt Pros was better than it was in the Sprint Pros, but they are far from the most breathable shoes I've worn."Arch Support - Score: 3.9The support through the arch area of the Revolt Pros felt great for most of our playtesters, regardless of their foot type. Jason has a low arch, and he thought the fit was perfect for him. He said, "The arch was right on for me. I didn't have any soreness from day one. There's not too many shoes out there for us low-arched players, but this is one of them."Mark's fairly standard feet were well supported, too. He shared, "I felt like the Revolt Pro has an arch height that is slightly lower than average. My foot type is middle of the road, and the support was nearly perfect for my feet."Chris thought that the support through the midfoot was more than enough to keep his high arches happy. He said, "I liked the support I was getting from the midfoot shank in these shoes. The shoes felt very torsionally stable and well up to the task of keeping my arches safe. The flex point was perfectly located up toward the toes, and I liked the support I was getting when sprinting for the ball. I've had some arch issues in the past, but in these shoes I was playing pain and worry free."Andy, who has had issues with the fit of Head shoes, didn't have any better luck with the Revolt Pros. He said, "Head shoes have never fit me well through the arch, and unfortunately, the Revolt Pros were no exception. I didn't get the support through that area that I needed, which would at times result in some searing pain through my arches. I realize this may be more of an issue with my own feet more than anything, but players requiring plenty of arch support may need to look into using an aftermarket insole."Foot Support/Stability - Score: 4.6Support and stability proved to be a highlight of the Revolt Pro playtest. Andy felt totally protected as he scurried around the hard courts. He praised, "This was far and away the biggest strength of the shoes. The intent was to build solid and stable performance shoes, and Head certainly succeeded in that regard. I felt very protected and in control of every sharp movement on court. The shoes locked me in, especially through the midfoot, and resisted twisting very well. The forefoot cage and snug fit prevented my foot from sliding around inside the shoes as well. These are very stable and supportive shoes!"Chris also had high praises, saying, "I was really stoked on the level of support I found in these shoes. The fit was spot on, so my feet weren't sliding around at all inside the shoes. My feet felt locked in when I came to a quick stop. Likewise, quick lateral changes of direction resulted in a locked-in feel. I was also very impressed with the stability. The shoes flexed in all the right places yet were stiff where needed. Almost perfect marks from me here."No matter what surface he was playing on, Mark was in total control of his movement. He raved, "Even after 30-plus hours on a hard court (and a few sets on clay), the Revolt Pros have maintained their shape, comfort and stability. I mainly hang around the baseline, shuffling side to side, so I feel I put the shoes to the test. Hard stops, cornering and changes of direction in the Head Revolt Pro were all positive. Getting my ankles to roll over was about as easy as getting a Tesla Roadster to break traction through a corner -- not likely to happen under normal circumstances."Rounding out the group was Jason, who said, "This is definitely a selling point for this shoe. I thought it was very stable and supportive. The beefy shank and Energy Frame really helped keep the shoes from twisting and torquing when I was changing direction."Overall Sole Durability - Score: 4.6Another strength of the Revolt Pros was their durability, and they received near top marks from all of our playtesters. Chris, who is normally very hard on his shoes, compared these to the most durable shoe on the market, saying, "These shoes held up very well for me. Dare I say they were adidas Barricade-like? While the Barricades have always been the most durable shoes for me, these have closed the gap. My highest wear areas saw only minimal wear, while the rest of the outsoles held up extremely well. Another high score from me here."Mark agreed, offering, "Overall, these are very durable shoes. They showed little signs of wear for me throughout the test."The excellent durability met Jason's lofty expectations. He said, "I kind of expected these shoes to be pretty durable considering how substantial they felt, and I was not disappointed. The outsoles held up very well throughout the playtest and showed very little wear and tear."Andy's pair has a lot more wear time left on them. He raved, "Durability was also a major focus for these shoes, and once again I think Head succeeded. After the playtest the outsole on my pair shows very little signs of wear. I could put a lot more hours of play on my pair and they would hold up just fine."Toe Durability - Score: 4.7The toe area of the Revolt Pros proved to be just as durable as the outsole. Andy thought so highly of the toe durability that he would challenge even the worst toe draggers to try to wear down these shoes. He offered, "There was plenty of protection in the toe area, that I couldn't even put a noticeable dent in it. While I may not have the worst toe dragging habits, I think this shoe would hold up just fine for even the most aggressive draggers."Even Chris, who is one of those extreme toe draggers, was no match for this shoe. He said, "The toes of these shoes held up very well. I have lots of scuffing on both shoes, but the materials are holding up well. As with the outsoles, I still have plenty of life left before I wear through the toes."Traction - Score: 4.3All of our playtesters agreed that the Revolt Pros provided excellent traction on the hard courts. Jason had no issues with slipping when accelerating quickly for one of Chris' pesky drop shots. He said, "The unique 'wave' pattern on the outsole actually provided solid traction. Typically, the issue I have is with slipping on the initial step, but that wasn't the case here. I was sliding more when I was trying to stop or change direction. Although that's probably a good thing for those players who like to slide to a stop, it's not something I do often, so I don't take it into consideration when moving around on the tennis court."Mark was very impressed, saying, "The traction goes along with the support/stability aspect of these shoes. On a hard court these shoes offered a predictable amount of slide but no slipping on starts and stops. I have to give this shoe two thumbs up for traction."Chris found a nice balance of grip and give. He praised, "These shoes continued to check all the right boxes for me when it came to moving around the court. I was getting great traction on both starts and stops. I liked that the shoes offered enough give when I was coming to a lateral stop to take some pressure off my ankles. Once my foot was planted I was able to push off aggressively and never had to worry about any undue slippage."Andy found the soles to be a little sticky on hard courts, which certainly provides confidence for some hard court players. He offered, "The outsole was on the stickier end of the spectrum (rather than offering more give and slide), so if that's your jam then they'll work out nicely for you. I typically like a little more give so I have an easier time going into an aggressive slide, but that's more personal preference than anything. I always felt confident that the shoes would grab the court nicely and help me get back into position quickly."Weight - Score: 3.3Although they're not the lightest and fastest shoes around, the Revolt Pro didn't weigh down our playtesters all that much or affect their movement in a negative way. Mark thought they were on the lighter side compared to other shoes in their class. He shared, "I don't know what these weigh, but they feel on the lighter end of the spectrum compared to other sole-warranty shoes."Chris welcomed the trade-off of weight for the stability and durability that the shoe offered. He said, "While not the lightest of shoes, I was happy with the weight and overall feel of the Revolt Pro on court. Considering all the stability and durability, I would expect some added weight. I think Head has done a good job keeping these shoes fast enough while also building them to last."Jason thought the snug fit made the Revolt Pros feel lighter than they are. He shared, "These shoes are heavy, but not clunky. When I wear them I can definitely feel their weight on my feet, but because they're so securely locked into place they don't feel bulky."Andy thought the weight of the shoes affected his movement a little. He critiqued, "These shoes are definitely built for stability and durability, so naturally they felt a little heavy when moving around the court. They're very rigid, too, so it almost felt as though I had to adjust my foot strike as opposed to the shoes moving naturally with me. If you're looking for something speed-oriented I would look elsewhere, but if you like that feeling of bulk and protection on your feet (which many people do), these would be right up your alley."Overall - Score: 3.9
LikesChris- "These are my favorite Head shoes so far. The fit was supportive and glove-like (just make sure to order up a half-size). The cushioning was nice and responsive. I was also impressed with both the overall durability and the amount of traction offered."Jason- "A very supportive, stable and durable shoe."Andy- "The Revolt Pro softened up and became more comfortable as the test wore on. Very good stability, durability and traction."Mark- "The aesthetics, the low-to-the-ground construction, the level of cushioning and the overall durability are top notch. I am also happy that Head did not name the shoe after a racquet."
DislikesChris- "The length fit is off. Once I had the right size on my feet I was good to go."Jason- "They're too narrow for my E width feet."Andy- "They felt very rigid and stiff out of the box and when I was moving aggressively on court. I would've liked a little more room in the forefoot to give my foot some room to breathe as well."Mark- "There's not really much to complain about. I would say this is a very refined high performance tennis shoes."
Comparing this shoe to others they've worn, our testers said:Chris- "Just a better feeling shoe for me compared to the Sprint Pro, which fit a bit wide on me. I prefer these over the Babolat Propulse BPMs as well, because they are much more supportive and offer better traction. The Wilson Rush Pro 2.0s have a lighter feel and better ventilation, but they didn't fit my narrow feet as well as the Revolt Pros."Jason- "The performance of the Revolt Pros, but not the fit, reminds me a lot of the Yonex Power Cushion Pro."Andy- "Some similar shoes that come to mind are the Prince Warrior, New Balance MC 1296 and adidas Barricade 8. All of those shoes place an emphasis on locking in the feet and offering excellent stability and durability, but they aren't necessarily the most comfortable or fastest options out there."Mark- "The adidas CC Feather III is the most similar shoe for sure, but harder to get your feet into."
