The Jefferies Co. also known as Jefferies & Malings is a very old British racket maker, one of the earliest makers. They made the first rackets for lawn tennis inventor (or at least marketer) Walter Clopton Wingfield. 1877. This Racquet is a 1914/1915 Model Gold Medal Ruby, made in London. Has markings on the throat, stamped on the side and on the end butt. Still strung with what may be the original strings (they look old!) Winding is fully intact. No obnoxious scuffs with some signs of use. Stamped J H Hargreaves on throat side b, Probably was a retailers name. This Racquet is an antique and very collectible. No attempt to clean or refinish. Auction has no reserve.
