Rare Vintage Wood & Aluminum 1927 Spalding DURALITE Tennis Racket Original StringsUntil last month, I was not aware of this style racket or that anyone other than Dayton was making metal rackets. Reach (Philadelphia) took out the original patent for this in 1925 and sold it to Spalding in 1926. Reach made this exact same style in 1925; Spalding made it for about two years after that… probably not a big seller for either company and therefore hard to find.Antique old early wood wooden and aluminum metal racquet with art deco style elements.NOTE: Part of a group of 12 rackets fresh to the market. I have listed two rackets a day between June 16 and June 21. Will combine items for much reduced postage for multiple purchases.MODEL: 1927 Spalding DURALITEALUMINUM HEAD: classic period oval; frame is square at the shoulders and all the way around the head; expected wear to the top of the head. WARPING: noneWOOD THROAT: excellent solid condition; soft glow old finish on the shaftTHROAT WEDGE: open throat as shown.STRINGS: looks like original thick blue and tan twist lamb gut; Daytons were strung with metal piano wire that shredded the ball; this was a big improvement.BANDING: four original intact black and black/broze green and bronze color silk cord bandsDECALS: As shown; very good to excellent. GRIP: 5 1/8 inchesSTAMPS: MEDIUIM and M (upside down?) on one side; S P 1 and upside down 7 (?) on the opposite sideWEIGHT: weighs 14.0 ounces actual weight END CAP: leather strip 98% intact with very minor wear as shown in the photo.
