What's so special about Kevlar?Back in the 1980's when this Prince TRICOMP racquet was manufactured Prince and Wilson especially pioneered the use of new materials in their racquets. Perhaps the most successful and enduring of these hybrid technologies was the "Kevlar Mix". The famous Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 used by Pete Sampras and others had an 80% Graphite/20% Kevlar mix. This Prince TRICOMP uses Graphite/Kevlar/Fiberglass. Here's what a Materials Engineer says about the improvements brought by Kevlar,"Kevlar fibres are much less stiff than graphite. They absorb more energy upon impact. That is the basic reason they use it in bulletproof vests, they strain to absorb lots of energy. The energy absorption means that it dampens vibration better leading to lower stiffness and more flex."In our experience the Kevlar component gives a racquet more feel making it more controllable.
